The CIVL (Conseil Interprofesionnel des Vins du Languedoc) is extremely active in promoting Languedoc wines abroad, but also in constantly having journalists to come to the Languedoc, to discover the fabulous landscape diverstity of this very large region, and give words about the unbelievable source of richness and values it provides.

Here are some very intersting extracts from Wine Consultant  Christopher MATTHEWS's article in the NEW YORK LAW Journal, dated December 7th. 2009, about LANGUEDOC following his recent trip and discoveries in Languedoc. His article ends on a full paragraph about BORIE LA VITARELE... our very succesful Organic Saint-Chinian. Few words as well about Domaine de la BOUYSSE Corbieres, Cuvee Mazerac.

Languedoc's Warm Reds : France's most ancient vineyards are its most exciting contemporary wine frontier, offering vivid fruit, frequent elegance and a sense of place.
 
Travelling the byways of the Languedoc in Southern France, "Le Midi", grape vines are anywhere you turn, from the rocky, wild herb and scrub-covered outcrops (garrigue), to the verdant plains alongside the Canal du Midi... It's no accident: France's southernmost province is ideal for wine, an arc of territory running from Nimes to the Pyrenees that has been under vines since the 6th century B.C. It is endowed with sun and warmth, guaranteeing ripeness; cooling , cleansing winds from inland mountains and the sea; just enough winter rain; and diverse geology and topography, a vintner's palette. This fortuitous mix makes for naturally healthy vineyards, where synthetic pesticides and chemical applications are rarely necessary.
 
The Languedoc is by far France's largest wine production zone... Happily wine sector reforms have encouraged vineyard research, new plantings of "improving" Mediterranean varieties (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre) and modern cellar techniques. As a result, France's most ancient vineyards have been its most exciting contemporary wine frontier - and a source of value... It's time to get better acquainted with the Languedoc, especially its warming, spicy reds for the holiday and winter table.
 
 
Growing Green: "Courtesy the benign climate, "green" viticulture is comparativeley easy. Few however, perform with the aplomb of BORIE la VITARELE, in a remote corner of Saint-Chinian.
 
Polymath owner Jean-Francois Izarn grows grapes organically and biodynamically, taking what the vintage gives. In the cellar, he employs only wild yeasts for the fermentation, and vinifies by parcels that correspond to one of the property's three primery soil types: chalk and limestone (Les Terres Blanches), schist (Les Schistes) and pudding stones and alluvial gravel (Les Cres). After aging in used oak barrels under the same conditions, he blends the different varieties into cuvees defined by the three terroirs.
 
If you doubt the soil's influence on wine, Izarn's wines will make you a believer, like the aromatic and fresh berry Grenache-Syrah blend of Les Terres Blanches 2008; the finesse and clean minerality of the Grenache-Syrah Les Schistes 2007; and the concentrated power, deep fruit and spice of the Syrah-Mourvedre Les Cres 2006. Heady fruit, complexity and lingering finishes define these remarkable wines".
 
 
Versatility, Naturally: "Good things can come in big packages. In fact, Corbieres, France's largest single appellation in production terms,  is a reliable source of value. Here, the oft-maligned Carignan is a stalwart player, adding spicy, rustic character to blends, especially from old vines.
 
Domaine de la BOUYSSE's Mazerac 2005 is a Corbieres to seek out, finely tuned, offering bright blacberry jam and spices notes.
